#PioneerOfTaiwaneseArtHistory In his later years, Wang Bai-yuan serialized "A History of the Taiwanese Art Movement" in #TaipeiHistoricalDocuments and authored the art volume of the General Gazetteer of Taiwan Province. Amid the factional battles over traditional ink painting, he also wrote in defense of Taiwanese gouache painting (then known as Eastern-style painting), becoming the first true scholar of Taiwanese art history. This episode of the "V-Touch: The Sweeping History of Art" series traces a life of just 63 years marked by repeated imprisonment. Jailed again and again after the #228Incident, Wang spent his final years under the constant shadow of state surveillance, before dying of complications from uremia.
